Admittedly, I don't understand enough about your business, but I'm trying to learn.

I import a couple containers per month from China to the west coast. I use a forwarder based in China. This choice was based on a recommendation from a reliable party. Back in the good ole days of 2019, I didn't require much communication with the forwarder because issues were few and far between. I needed a container, I got one, it got loaded, end of story.

Now I'm just not sure what's going on. I have multiple 40HC's worth of goods sitting at my manufacturer's warehouses and they are politely hounding me to get it on a ship. My forwarder assures me she's looking for containers/vessel space, and she'll give me a quote only to later in the week week tell me they failed to secure the space. Or I just don't hear much at all until I reach back out only to find out it's all still a work in progress.

So two questions I guess for the logistics pros here:

1) I know things are an absolute crapfest right now, but how often does it make sense to ask for an update? I don't want to be an irritating customer, but I have manufacturers that need updates as well.

2) Is it really this difficult to get space on a vessel right now? Or am I just such a small time customer that I'm in the back of the line? It's starting to feel like this cargo is going to be stuck in China forever.
