I have been working at a forwarder for 1 year in a pricing dept as an intern (part time during my senior year earning a Bachelors degree in International Transportation from a Maritime school), upon graduation I was moved into the imports dept as a coordinator.
I was originally offered the position as 40k base + OT , it felt like pulling teeth but i managed to negotiate 43k. Ive been in imports for about 5-6 months now and as you all know its pretty awful long stressful days . I requested a raise to 50k base because i feel Ive been doing pretty well in my position and my workload has been increased by a good amount. They rejected my request and said the amount i was asking for with my experience was not enough to justify the pay bump. (I recently found out that my supervision i report to has been at the company for over 4 years is making 55k base.)
Ive spent the past few weeks applying for logistics/ entry level supply chain positions at non logistics companies and already made it to the second round of interviews for 2 companies that advertise starting pay around 52-58k base. ( i honestly haven't even put too much effort into job searching, i just wanted to see if my boss was correct that i was being paid accordingly for my abilities, but am now ready to jump ships)
Is it just my degree + limited work experience that is giving me some additional mobility to find better jobs ? Or does the forwarder im at now just pay awfully ? most of the people i work with are very good at what they do and probably generate their salary in company profit every 2-3 months from the shipment volume we handle. I'm trying to understand why these people would be selling themselves short if better opportunities exist
