I am in 3PL and we have a customer that is a reseller. They are importing all kinds of stuff and moving it through e-commerce sites, so a really wide product catalogue. We have masks, apparel, housewares, lawn and garden, pretty much anything.

We are not set up to handle hazmat of any kind. We told the customer this is a deal breaker we will not ship it. They said no problem they will route product accordingly between us and a different hazmat certified site.

We got word of a shipment with an item that very much sounds like it is hazardous chemicals. Haven’t seen the shipment yet but I asked the client. They said “no worries, it’s def not hazmat, it will be labeled accordingly”.

I believe him, but he has hundreds of new SKUs weekly. It’s possible something slips through the cracks. My concern is less with my client and more with sketchy vendors/manufacturers.

So my question - What can I do to ensure that a product coming into my supply chain is being labeled correctly and we are being safety compliant?
