Hey, I hope this is the right subreddit for my kind of question.

I ordered some snacks from the US that aren't available in my country. I calculated shipping costs, which were about $50 - it's too much when compared to the $29 value, but I accepted that. I used MyUs, which is a company that basically just sends packages from US your way.

Last morning I woke up with a message that I was charged $51.05 for something called Inbound Duties and Taxes. Also, for some reason the declared value of my package was $60, and it reads that this was done for customs purposes.

The company used DHL for shipping, and as far as I understand, all this is DHL asking for that money.

Before I completely snap at the company (online reviews show that they are legit), can someone help me understand what's going on here? Why am I paying someone $51 on a $29 worth of snacks, plus $50 for the shipping?
